As one of the largest and most affluent cities in Missouri, the City of Chesterfield aspired to have a best-in-class website for its residents and businesses. At the time, they were operating with an outdated website that was cumbersome and taxing on the internal IT department to update.
Captiva employed its Empoweren content management system along with numerous custom modules so that every department in the city would be empowered to keep their section of the site up to date and engaging.
Standard modules included the Content Manager, Calendar/Events Manager, News Manager, Gallery Photo Manager, Careers Manager and Forms Manager. Custom modules included a flood stage monitor that provided information on the levels of area rivers; an ordinance system to easily update and publish to the site; an active projects module for planning and public works; and an online reservation system that enables citizens to reserve the city fields and pools.
To eliminate the traditional bottlenecks caused by excessive demands on the IT department, the Empoweren CMS allows non-technical users in each department to maintain their specific parts of the website. Each department administrator has a username and password set up to update information in their department. If a new department should develop, the City can create as many administrators they need. They can even give administrators the ability to give others in their department a username and password, allowing them access to the whole department or only certain parts of it.
With the use of Empoweren and custom modules, the City of Chesterfield now keeps an updated, visually appealing, easy to navigate website. Not only is it functional for all city department administrators, but extremely user friendly. With the website the city is strengthening relationships with community partners, and delivering an organized, consistent image to its residents and the public.
